I cant decide whether to move to Atlanta or stay in New York?

Travel Info
I pondered this for 2 yrs. Had a problem finding work but since found a good paying job with a great relationship with my boss & co-workers. Gym location is convenient. My family, friends & all I know is in NY. I dont mean to trash the city but I get so sick of NY sometimes. Its difficult to find a nice & quiet place to live unless I pay an arm/leg in rent. Noise in NY is crazy. $1,000/month rent in NY is considered "low end" lol. An apt in a nice location in NY starts at apx. $1500 & the apts arent that big. In Atlanta the apts & real estate in general is generous. You get so much for your $$ & the places are so NICE. I see its quiet & peaceful in alot of areas in the state of Georgia. But I know no one in Atlanta, I'm not familiar with Atlanta & I have to find another job before I relocate & hope I get a boss & co-workers I like & get along with well. And I'd be all alone out there.

I keep dreaming about it because the places to live are so NICE.

Should I just wait & see??

Stay in NY....We have too many people in Atlanta already.

I've been in Atlanta for 4 months. So the city's still fairly fresh to me, but I like most of what I've experienced. There's plenty to do here, good places to eat, some cool open, green spaces, public transportation (MARTA) and a hoppin' downtown. Traffic is horrible, but I cope, along with what seems like billions of other drivers.

Before I lived here, I was in Dallas, where the cost of living was a little lower, but I'm coping. It helps that I have a good job, which is a major reason I came here. I had a good job in Dallas, too, but I didn't have the best relationship with my boss, and I wasn't learning anything new.

So Atlanta was a "step up" for me. The city's a little bigger and the job's a little better. You think it would be a step up for you?

And is bad real estate the only thing bugging you about New York? Are there other options? For example, if you live alone, is there a chance that you'll meet somebody who can share your rent?

Don't discount the importance of having good relations at work, and remember that since Atlanta's smaller, you might give up social stuff that you enjoy now. You're also leaving family, friends and all you know. My advice: If you're itching to get out of your city and try something different, go for it. But if real estate is your only concern, think long and hard about moving here. You've got a lot going for you in New York.
ATLANTA!!! My husband's job just brought us here (a little outside of the city), about 2 weeks ago. We've moved around a lot and it's by far my favorite. The cost of living is soooo low especially in comparison to NYC (I used to live in CT and know about NY). I've visited NYC, Manhatten etc. and it's great, but Atlanta is a lot cleaner and less "ghetto" pardon that, but I felt unsafe in NY in A LOT of places. Atlanta, I'd go to the city by myself (I am a young female). The traffic isn't even that bad in Atlanta. People are great about letting you in to change lanes and stuff. Also, there are back roads to avoid traffic. We only know a few people here too, but everyone is really friendly, they take pride in their city, and there is a ton of stuff to do for any budget. I work in real estate here in Atlanta and the market is GREAT! Don't even consider renting, you can buy for the same monthly payment!
Iv lived in Atlanta my entire life and wouldnt have it any other way. atlanta is a beautiful city and the people are great. its definitely a big step from ny but its always peaceful and theres so much to do. the traffic isnt really that bad and the real estate is much better than ny. u should move to atlanta for sure
I grew up in New York, born, bred, and educated. I now live in Atlanta, well right outside the city. There are pros and cons about anyplace you live. The rent in New York is ridiculous! Atlanta has better gas prices and housing prices. What you spend on an average house in NY would get you a mini mansion here.
Since you like a little peace, Atl is not noisy like NY; Atl does go to sleep. It is quite possible that your social life will not suffer, depending on what you like to do. It is also a slower pace, but there are plenty, plenty activities, and tourist stuff.
However, traffic is a monster. So the answerer who said it wasn't bad and people let you over to change lanes, should just wait. Traffic is a little lighter at this time because school is out for the summer. Drivers are just as fanatic here as in any other megalopolis. They don't let you over and to keep up with the flow of traffic, most people drive 75 mph. The lanes are wider, though, and "rush hour" is for a shorter period than NYC.
My biggest complaint is the weather. There really are only 2 seasons, hot and not as hot. Forget about seeing snow and there are no real beaches. You would have to go to FL, or the eastern coast of GA for that. My second complaint is that there are a lot of thunder storms here.
I moved here because my parents moved down here and like ten years later my mom asked me to try living her for 6 months. My 6 years has turned into a decade. So, it is much better to know someone here before you move. You and a friend should come and visit for a week and check out the abviance, and go to the surrounding counties. Also check out the city newspaper, or news broadcasts online. You can also listen to some local radio broadcasts that stream.
Best of all, there are wonderful churches here!
