Atlanta or Marietta?

Travel Info
I am think of moving to Atlanta or Marietta- which one is better? Which one has less crime but affordable housing and good jobs?

Travel Tips
Having lived in Marietta/Smyrna area for 30 years, and considering myself a native "Atlantan" I would recommend Marietta over Atlanta. Crime will definately be less in Marietta, however, there will be a commute to Atlanta. During rush hour the commute can range from 30 minutes (the south end of Marietta) to over 2 hours (from the north end on a bad day) On a weekend you can expect to be in downtown (Atlanta) in 20-30 minutes thereabout. ousing is less expensive in Marietta, and I would suggest the western part of Marietta, or "East Cobb" as well. East Cobb is somewhat more expensive than "West Cobb" o western Marietta. The city center of Marietta is OK by most standards, but is surrounded on one half by an US Air Reserve Base and Lockheed, and the interstate and the Hospital on the North end of town. Marietta is basically divided by Interstate 75. "East Cobb" begins basically on the eastern side of 75. Going west from 75 is a somewhat lower income area until you get to the "Square" of Marietta (City Center) From there the standard of housing increases and thee are many subdivisions west. If you want the city life, Atlanta is a great place and has grown and change in a good way over the years. 14th street area is the "Gay part of town" and Buckhead (north of Atlanta) is the Ritzy part of town, often a high end part of the Atlanta Area. The South Side of Atlanta holds the Aiport, and is generally lower income. (Generally) When in hip hop one hears of "College Park, or East Point" this is south of Atlanta. Going East is Decatur and out to Stone Mountain and Gwinett. Between Gwinett and Cobb Counties, I prefer Cobb (Marietta)

Atlanta has many office Jobs, while Marietta has service jobs, both are good places for employment, and recreation as well as living :)
Hope this helps Source(s): Native Atlantan
Other Travel Tips
Marietta has less crime, but is not one of the most desirable areas. you may want to check out the vinings area of Smyrna, its a much more desirable area to live and convenient to both Atlanta and Marietta.
Marietta...parts of it has very affordable housing...certain parts of Atlanta are cool too..but the Marietta/Smyrna area is very affordable..and low crime area.

Marietta and Smyrna both have parts that aren't too pleasing to the eye..but you have to see which part you want to stay in
If you are worried about crime, I would go with Marietta. There really isn't much distance between the two. You could live in Marietta and work in Atlanta
Marietta, has more affordable housing & less crime (but it also depends where in Marietta & where in Atlanta). I would move to whatever area is near work. Both have good jobs - it really depends on what kind of job you are looking for. Try atlantajobs.com or check out the AJC (Atlanta Journal Constitution) which is our local newspaper, you can check it out online at: www.ajc.com - then go to classifieds section.
There is crime everywhere, but if u are looking for affordable housing try Marietta since it's right outside of the city.
