Anyone have any Information on Marietta, GA? |
Travel Info We are possibly moving here in a couple months...Can anyone give me any Information on the area? Parks, Stores, Entertainment, Living areas and costs...Anything in the local area! Thanks! Travel Tips Marietta is in Cobb County about 20 miles north or downtown Atlanta. It is one of the best suburbs in the Atlanta area. There is great shopping at Cumberland Mall and Town Center Mall as well as upscale shopping districts like The Avenues East Cobb. A brand new Performing Arts Center is opening this summer that will be the new home of the Atlanta Opera Company. Marietta is also the home of Kennesaw State University, the 3rd largest public University in Georgia. Cobb County Public schools rank among the best in the state. 3 of the Top 10 High Schools in the state are located in East Cobb County. Housing is available in all price ranges from well over $1 million to very affordable. The Median price being $174,000. There are about 550,000 people in Cobb County. The City of Marietta has a wonderful, small town atmosphere with a quaint Town Square in the downtown area that features many wonderful antique shops and restaurants. Historically Marietta played a key role in the Civil War. Kennesaw Mountain is just north of the Marietta Square and was the site of the last significant battle to protect Atlanta before Sherman's march through Atlanta destroyed the city. The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is nearby and offers outdoor activities. It's a short drive to the Blue Ridge Mountains from Marietta. There are 36 county and city parks in the area. In the East Cobb area where I live there are over 24 little league baseball fields and 16 public tennis courts. An indoor aquatic center and a Community Performing Arts Center. Metro Atlanta really has grown so much and continues to grow that the "end" of one city/town and the "beginning" of another seem to blend. There are great museums in Atlanta, an aquarium, many concert venues and lots of theater options too. There are too many malls and shopping locations to tell you about. There are great restaruants that are local and national chains. Atlanta has professional sports teams so there is always a games to catch. Metro Atlanta also has lots of colleges and universities so the schools have activites for the community to take advantage of. Marietta has a large water park called White Water and Atlanta also has Six Flags. I hope that some of this helps you. Been there lots, go there lots, personal experience. Will be moving to that area myself in the next year. My husbands job is moving us there from south Georgia. |
