That ride from Stone Mtn. to downtown is about a 35 min. ride, if not in rush hour. At rush hour its about an hour plus. Atl. traffic can be really bad then.

It will be 30 minutes from downtown, depending upon the time of day. Stone Mountain is directly east of Atlanta, on the border of DeKalb (dee-cab) and Gwinnett Counties. You will take Highway 78 to get there off of I-285, the perimeter around Atlanta. It is a big park and is the second most visited state park in the country.

You can spend a good six to eight hours here, depending upon what you want to do. They have a good petting zoo, skylift to the top of the mountain, museums, train around the mountain, a great kid's area with 4-D theatre & play house, and lots of other stuff. Really a great park. Of course, there is lots of historical things here, too.

You will pay a per car entry fee and then some additional surcharges if the event requires (which most don't). Take your car in - you will drive a good bit from place to place. Food is available, but nothing is too fancy.

Must dos - go to the top of the mountain, especially late in the day and see the Atlanta skyline and look around. Go to the nighttime laser show - it is lots of fun. When you do, take a good blanket to sit on in the "mall" grassy area in front of the large carving. The grass is prickly and will hurt if you don't have a blanket. You can take food, wine or whatever as you watch it. Lots of fun and it starts just before dark, but get there a little early because the crowds are huge.
