Is Atlanta all hype? Or is it really a great city like NYC/LA/Chicago/Miami?

all hype. the only thing good about it is what we bring in from other places: chain stores and mainstream music. and we have a big airport. but all the bad far outweighs all of that.

What difference does it make? A city is a city.
Some are larger, some are smaller. Atlanta is smaller, but by all reports, it is a worthy city (worthy enough to have hosted the 1996 Olympic Summer Games). I drove through Atlanta once in 1977, and found it to be a well-ordered clean city.

the ATL is an up & coming city. It all depends on what you are looking for. Jobs & cost of living are great. Super history here with Civil War stuff, civil rights movement, Dr. King and other things that no other city has. Excellent race relations and a good mix of people.

Good churches, schools are getting better and there are lots of companies here that are movers: Coke, Delta, UPS, GA Pacific, BellSouth, CNN, CDC, Home Depot, Turner Broadcasting, Phillips Electronics, and lots of tech companies.

Food, night life, sports life and fine arts are all good. Great urban music scene - best in the country - along with country, gospel and alternative. Lots of groups are from Atlanta and nearby Athens.

You can also get to the mountains in 1 hour, beaches in three directions in 5 hours and be in the country if you want to in 2 hours in any direction. The airport is the worlds busiest but it means you can get to anywhere from here and it does not cost very much.

One downside is bad traffic. The roads are good, but the train system sucks.
