Is the High Museum of Art a museum worth visiting in Atlanta?

Is the High Museum of Art in Atlanta worth visiting? Why or why not?

The reason I am asking is because I have heard mixed reviews on the museum. Some who I know have enjoyed their visit while others have not.

Travel Tips
At this point in time, it's a great time to go. They have selections from the Louvre there that have never been in the states before. Right now, it's the King's collection so there are all of these amazing tapestries and furniture from places like Versailles. It's breathtaking.

They also have been working on restoring the Gates of Paradise, the famed doors of a church in Italy. A few panels are currently on display along with a little video as to how they've been restoring them.

When I went in May, they also had an amazing exhibit on Annie Liebovitz's photography, both personal and professional. I think that will be around until September.

As for all of the rest, I happen to like the rest of the museum and the way it's set up (each floor has a different time period). I think it's definitely worth a trip. Source(s): My own visits to the High.
Other Travel Tips
It's ok. I've been spoiled by visiting museums out of the country that are way better. But I'm glad I went, and my group all had a good time. Right now they have a Louvre exhibit that is neat. It's not as much of an "art" museum (meaning paintings). It has everything, like in the American section there's pieces of furniture. I wasn't expecting that. I think it is worth a visit.
I guess it depends if you like art or not. I went during the Van Gogh exhibit about 2 years ago, that was pretty busy, but after seeing that exhibit we roamed around the rest of the High and I enjoyed myself. Right now they have exhibits from the Lourve for the next 3 years (3 different exhibits, I think rotating every year). I haven't made it to see the new exhibit yet but I think it is worth checking it out.
I went for Matisse and for a number of other special exibits. I thought it was wonderful. I liked the audio players with headphones that they provided. It's better than the art I've seen in Washington DC but other thant that, my experience is limited.
Oh, yes!
