I don't know where the Ritz was in Atlanta, but the Westin is a great place!
I don't think any Hotel is worth that amount of money a night! $500 They've gotta be kidding... All your doing is sleeping anyways!!
There are 2 ritz-carltons in atlanta- one in buckhead and one downtown...The Buckhead one has one of the best reviews of all ritz's in the world, and the downtown one its much less 'exaulted'. These are probably not the 'nicest' hotels, however. Not even the most expensive. It really depends on what you are looking for- There is a Four Seasons in midtown which features a lot of 'high class' prostitution- and you wont find that advertised in its reviews, im sure. There's really so many hotels in Atlanta...sometimes conventions can actually increase to population of the city by 20% or so- and many of the people who visit Atlanta are very wealthy businesspeople using a company card, etc. so you could easily spend $1,000 a night on a hotel room if you really want to.

Oh i almost forgot to recommend the travellodge right near the airport, 'cause I own it! haha.
While the Ritz is nice (both the locations in Buckhead and on Peachtree Street) I prefer something a bit more elegant and luxurious, but at a better rate. I would reccomend the Georgian Terrace Hotel, which is located across the street from the Fox Theatre. Also it is just a short hop to the Varsity, and a quick Taxi or bus ride to the High Museum, or Atlantic Station and the Ga. Aquarium. Another hotel that might peak your interest would be the Westin Peachtree Plaza. While I have never stayed there, I have heard the accomodations are supurb!
