New Zealand Travel?

Travel Info
Hi. We are considering leaving for New Zealand in about 2 weeks and plan on staying for about 10 days. We will be flying into Auckland.

We would like to see & do as much as we can on a budget of about $1500 for two of us. We will most likely be staying in campgrounds (assuming the weather isn't too bad) and don't mind roughing it at all. We want to spend time outdoors hiking & having adventures.

Any suggestions on places to see? Things to do?

Thanks!!!

Last year I was in New Zealand for 2 weeks, started in Auckland and made out way North, While in Auckland for a cool experience and I mean cool head to the bar Minus 5 it is completely made of ice. Expereince of a lifetime. From Auckland we headed North and fell in love with Pahia, in the Bay of Islands, we stayed at the Pipi Patch Hostel, great partying and a beach, small town, can take a ferry across to the next town if you choose, also a great place to go skydiving the views are breathtaking. The best place for tourist info is the Salt Air company right on the waterfront. Only ended up in these 2 places had far too much fun in the Bay of Islands to venture much farther, also went on a day trip to Cape Reinga, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Tasman Sea quite cool, the history behind it is fabulous, as well as the sand boarding!! Where ever you head have fun...beautiful country, heading back soon!!

Hi, you will be in North Island. Well, you should be able to tour around the whole island in that 10 days. I did with my pal in 4 days!

Accommoation can be cheap. Motels charge from NZ$30-50 per night. Food is up to you. We had service apartment where we can cook our own food and save on meals. Go to the supermarts in town and buy marinated meals for the day. Real budget.

There are quite a few parks to see in the north. I do forget their names, but if you plan on a round island route, that should cover majority of sights! Only Lake Taupo inthe middle will pull youout a bit. Otherwise, look up the various towns and travel from town to town and stop by anywhere you like, that is the way to see New Zealand. It was quite easy. Oh, don't forget wine tasting when you hiy any vineyad.

Happy hols.

ps. you can pick up free travel guides at the AA office and there are plenty of good travel materials from board and lodging information.
When you arrive to Auckland, Aspen House is a good place to stay. Visit the Coromandel Peninsula , it is awesome. Have brunch at the Pipiroa Country Kitchen near Thames. Must see the Cathedral Cove beach. Must see Rotorua.

A couple of suggestions, check out purenz.com to get an idea of where you want to go and what you want to do. Bay of Islands north of Auckland is great as well as Hawks Bay (west coast) and Wellington (way down south).

The tourist information network is the best (i-SITE). They can give suggestions as well as book your accomodation and/or tours. Always friendly and willing to help.

Lots of "holiday parks" as they are called to stay in. You'll see heaps of Maui Campers every where you go if this is the route you take. Otherwise, most motels offer kitchenettes and there are also farm stays/home stays that are inexpensive as well.
