Austin, TX? |
Travel Info I'm thinking of moving to Austin. What's a great area for a single gal, walking distance (safe area) to stores, fun hangouts, etc? I hear the east side is bad, but everything else is ok. Is the downtown crazy expensive to live? Travel Tips I live downtown, it can be expensive depending on the age of the complex. An efficiency at my complex is about $700+/month. But it is in within walking distance of everything, bus routes everywhere, and is great fun to live at. The other fun areas to live are SoCo (South Congress), and Hyde Park, though that area is further north and maybe not quite as young. It sounds like you would really like the South Congress area. It is young, people always hanging out at the local cafes, restaurants, and lots of shops right there. Easy bus accress over the bridge to downtown- or ride your bike. Downtown is really fun to live but it gets pretty loud on the weekends and there are always shady characters around asking for money! Source(s): http://railyard.org/ http://www.downtownaustin.com/living/whe... Other Travel Tips My sister is a librarian at the Austin Public Library. She loves Austin - a transplanted CT Yankee. Link below to relocation resources. I know that there is a terrific arts and music scene, the university is top-notch - another good place to check out housing options. I loved Austin when I visited. http://austin.about.com/od/relocation/in... The best area I lived in there was Barton Springs. It's near a number of fun restaurants and shops like Shady Grove (margaritas under the trees). It's right next to Austin's central park, Zilker. And it's close enough to the 6th and 4th street. I live outside of Austin so I'm kinda biased about it. There are always "bad sides" of any big city. 6th street is the place everyone has heard about and yes it's fun and it gets crazy at night. Lots of drinking and music. There are always music festivals going on. There are a lot of bike trails and running paths and parks. And then there is Lake Travis right in the middle of town that people ski and stuff on. There are parts of Austin that are beautiful and parts that look big city if you know what I mean. Down South interstate 35 about 40 minutes away in New Braunfels there is Schlitterbahn which is a really big natural spring water park. People come from a long way away to go there. And then in New Braunfels there is the Guadalupe and Comal rivers that run through town and people go tubing and camping and stuff like that. Needless to say there is a lot for a single gal to do around here and a lot of hot guys to do it with!! Come on over!! You'll love it!! Good luck!! P.S.- I forgot, it is expensive compared to Texas cities but not for cities like New York City. |
