What's so great about Austin Texas?

I'm looking for a new place to live, and I keep hearing how great Austin is. Anyone from there or visited there? How's the weather? How are the people? Outdoorsy stuff to do? Fun, safe downtown?

Weather is hot and humid from June - August, people are laid back, lots of outdoorsy stuff, fun downtown, pretty safe on the west side of I-35.

Come for a visit in July. If you can stand the heat, welcome to the kitchen.

4th Street for some great (really nice) bars and pool halls... 6th Street for some great music... The Salt Lick (outside of town) for some great outdoor barbeque... Chuy's (if it's still there) for some great Mexican... The bats coming out at night by the river, where everyone sits and watches... San Antonio with its history and River Walk nearby... And yes, great weather much of the time (though it can be humid sometimes).
I live near Austin and it's a great place to visit!!

The weather is between 80 and 90 degrees this time of year. The people are really great. There's a ton of outdoorsy stuff to do in the Zilker Park and Town Lake areas. Mostly hike and bike trails. Downtown is fun and I would definitly recommend going to 6th Street. That's where everyone hangs out at night. Even if you're not really into going to clubs and drinking 6th Street is still fun to go to.

It sure ISN'T I-35! That stretch of freeway is atrocious! It is kind of a crazy city. Do not like the layout, traffic or cost of living.
