What are some good apartments to live in Austin Texas?

Travel Info
Im moving to Austin August 15th, I dont know anyone in texas and was interested in the college apartments just to meet people...but ppl are telling me that they arent that great or safe...so what are some good places to look into?

Travel Tips
That is true about the college apartments in Austin. The crime in Austin has risen in the last year in the UT campus area on at the East Riverside area, which is south of UT and East of St. Edwards Univ. I really depends on which part of Austin you want to commute from.

I live in North Austin in the Metric/Parmer Lane area and the area is nice, clean and reasonable prices. I moved to Austin 2years ago for college from Houston and I am saving a few hundred dollars a month on rent compared to what I use to pay there.

I recommend Southwest Austin(which is closer to downtown and UT area) and North Austin(which is nice, affordable, but in traffic a commute can be up to 45mins to downtown and UT area)
Stay away from any area East of I-35 and Street names: Rundberg and Rutland and N. Lamar (crime areas) Source(s): www.austinapartments.com

do a yahoo search for prop. management companies and real estate agencies in austin. good luck to you. :)
Um, Austin is like the stinkhole of Texas.
Having been in the Austin apartment industry for a long time, I could run down a list of pluses and minuses for each of the communities I've ever been at, but that wouldn't help you a whole lot.

My best advice is to contact the folks listed in resources below. They really know what they are doing. Most likely you will want to contact the north office and ask about the woodhollow area. Of the two major student shuttle serviced areas, in my opinion only, the north one is a bit nicer. The south one would be Riverside if you are interested in it.

Well I don't know who told you that bull, but Austin is a family friendly city. I have been here for 20yrs and yes crime has went up a little, but its way better than other cities like LA or New York. If you are going to be attending U.T. there are lots of places you can live near campus. Just go to www.apartmentguide.com.
