Moving to Corpus Christie from San Diego, CA.? |
Travel Info Is anyone familiar with that area? Is it a good place for a 21 year old from a big city? Where can I go to have fun, how are Austin, San Antonio, Houston? Travel Tips Corpus Christie is NOTHING compared to San Diego, and I say that with love. I went to Corpus for a two week visit and ended up staying for six years. The beaches are terrible. The water is murky. The restaurants are nominal. The social scene is backward. The standard of living is poor. Corpus Christi means The Body of Christ. Corpus is not a religious town but it is a spiritual town. San Antonio is two hours away. Austin is three hours away. Dallas is seven hours away. Forget Houston! One only goes to Corpus if one is going to Corpus. One does not just go through Corpus on the way to somewhere else. It is a unique place and I dearly love it, but it is nothing compared to San Diego. Please, attempt to enjoy Corpus for what Corpus is and don't be tempted to compare it to anywhere else or you will be SORELY unhappy there. Good luck - oh, and go to San Antonio for fun. And if SA doesn't work for you - come on up to Austin. Austin IS fun. Others There's plenty of stuff for you to do in all of those places you need a car if u don't have one ur screwed but houston is very cheap check upscale properties All those places are a blast. You'll have shitloads of fun. I never lived in Texas. Passed through a bunch of times literally. California rots but I'd hate to advise something that could potentially rot as badly. We were stationed in Corpus. We found that living on the Island (N. Padre) was awesome. Beach is right there, although not too much else. There were 4 bars and 4 restaurants when we left, but they were about to start some major developing, so it might be more happening now. You can drive and drink on the beach and pets are ok. It's a totally different vibe than San Diego (where we are stationed now). Downtown Corpus is nothing like the Gaslamp. If you don't mind road trips, San Antonio and Austin are cool. Houston is a long and boring 5 hour drive. The biggest difference you'll find is the people. Texans are way friendlier than Southern Californians. Good luck! corpus is a beautiful city...loads of stuff to do. Austin is laid back, and awesome!!! if you go to Austin (even just to visit) hit 6th street. San Antonio is okay...downtown the river walk...nice place to take a date and eat out. Houston SUXS!!!!!!!! its hot, its humid, its dirty and it smells! |
