Travel Tips
Austin is a great city. The summers are hot, but the fall/winter/spring (it's really just one "not-so-hot" season) is awesome. There is a lot to do outdoors, and a really great night life. The University of Texas brings a lot of international people to the area, as do some of the major employers (Dell, etc.). Before we became "The Live Music Capital of the World" we were known as "The Friendly City," and I think the slogan still holds true. You'll have to get used to hearing a lot of "y'all's" and "fixin' to's," but the accent isn't too bad overall.

Public transportation still leaves something to be desired (although we're getting light rail at some point), so you'll probably need a car to get around. If you live centrally (or close to the University) you could get by fairly easily with a combination of a bike and the bus system.

As far as things to do, the weekly newspaper, The Austin Chronicle, has tons of listings of restaurants, music events, film, etc.

I am listing two links - one for the Chronicle, and one "new residents" guide. Hope this helps!

Good luck with your move! Source(s): www.austinchronicle.com/

toronto is a great city! very metropolitan. get a great winter jacket its cold. and update your wardrobe to look city chic.
You'll find Toronto to be an exciting city, with so much to do! It is an international city! Young street is a fantastic place to shop! Enjoy!
Ive lived in texas for 20 years and it is great its like canada it is its own country and depends on where you move then the people are pretty nice and there are alot of pretty girl down here.I think you will be very happy here.
You have my sympathies in your move to sexless. Leave your IQ in Canada and maybe it will be bearable.
it is VERY hot, rarely snows (which i hope you should know) unless you are up in Amarillo. I live in Houston, and we were lucky to get a LIGHT snow 2 years ago, and before that it hadn't snowed for about 5-10 years, so don't expect snow!! ha ha. The summers once topped up to 103 when i was in elementary school, we were forbidden to go outside. There are lots of places to go... unless your living in El Paso WAYYYYYYYY West. lol. It's a beautiful state! you will enjoy yourself.. and by the way.. It's not as country-like as most people think. It depends on where you move. If you are moving to San Antonio, Houston, or and other major city, you will not be in the country (or around any place).. There is VERY few cows in the city, they like the quiet! haha. :D i hope i helped you!!! Grazie (thank you in italian) for letting me respond to this question; from a fellow texan,-Kay
