Which area is a good area for a family to live?
A part of city that's low on crime.

Stay away from East and SE Austin. Best areas is west toward Lake Travis and NW. We have moved about 20 miles to the NW but are in a position where we seldon have to go into downtown Austin. It's about 30 minutes from our home to downtown. Traffic in Austin during peak drivetimes can be terrible. If I knew what price range you were up for I could tell you a little more. By the way, I'm not into any kind of sales or real estate. Just trying to help! Apartments on the west and NW will go from 1K/month to $1500/ month.

I live in round rock,just north of Austin.
I grew up in Austin and the best advice I could tell you is that,time has changed and the city is really growing out of control with businesses and crime.If you really have your heart set on moving here the best side of Austin is the west side.It's a little upscale and the area doesn't have much crime as the east side and it has been like that for many years!I would say even better to look for some place a little away from town,north of Roundrock like georgetown.
I' ve heard that Williamson county is the safest county to live in, which is NW Austin. I would agree that SE and E Austin are probably the most crime prone areas. There is a link on my website where you can check area crime statistics by zip code.
