Travel Info Any suggestions on places to stay, romantic places to go? Travel Tips You could stay at the San Jose hotel on S. Congress. Go check out their website to get an idea if you'd like it; it's really fixed up nicely, very hip and my sister the Austin hipster put up all her out of town wedding guests there....Or the Radisson on Town Lake has a really pretty view.... Or if you have the money for it, there's the Driskill which is this fancy Victorian hotel downtown, so cool-looking like an 1890s cattle baron should walk in, or real wheelers-dealers from midcentury Texas politics, I would so love to even see what the rooms look like upstairs!~ I only ever have seen the ballrooms, bar etc!, but an older more moneyed crowd than the San Jose, certainly....There is no boardwalk along the lake, it's a hike and bike trail and it's one of Austin's great features.... Austin has a ton of good restaurants; if you like Mexican food I would TOTALLY recommend Fonda San Miguel which has the greatest interior Mexican cuisine and the most beautiful building, with arched ceilings and tiles and tons of gorgeous art (Fonda San Miguel has a website too) (note it's expensive but totally worth it); or there's Jeffrey's or all kinds of other nice places....if you're into really great Mexican food for casual breakfast or lunch, there's Las Manitas which is at 2nd and Congress (it's great, it's soulful, it's cheap, it's a totally different experience from Fonda San Miguel but both great food and sooo Austin); you could take her out to hear live music at the Continental Club (louder, more edgy) or the Broken Spoke (soulful live Western swing type music); ..... you could see if there are any good classic movies playing at the Paramount Theater which was built in like 1912 or something and is amazing looking .... or whatever else you want to do... if you want total quiet you could go out to the Hill Country and stay in Wimberley at the Wimberley Inn, or stay in Fredericksburg and go hike up Enchanted Rock which is really pretty....go look on austin360.com or austinchronicle.com to see what's coming up. Others I have only past thru but I hear there is a beautiful boarkwalk along a river in downtown with interesting places to eat and drink that sounds fun... Have a nice dinner takeout dinner in the hotel or go to a resteraunt make sure it is chinese, austin has pleanty.Hao-Hao is good. Then swap her fortune cookie for it and then when she opens it and is shocked you say something like, well I think you should do what it says, or something, you'll think of something better. Then get down on one knee and do your thing. Trust me, she will be talking about it for years. maddierw@yahoo.com Mt. Bonnell is real nice. It all just depends on what you're into. The downtown scene is always poppin. There's ALWAYS concerts going on (we are the live music capital of the world afterall) and there's just a great feel in this city. For restaurants, I'd recommend Eddie V's or McCormick & Schmicks for Seafood, both downtown. The Melting Pot is good, it's fondue, a little more north though.
