Where are the best Tacos? |
Travel Info Where are the best Tacos? Travel Tips All over Austin. As soon as I arrive in the Austin airport I always go directly to the Matt's El Rancho inside the airport, and get a breakfast taco. Once you leave the airport and go into town (take the 50 cent airport shuttle bus), here are a variety of taco options: Taco Express has a cult following (They have very good breakfast tacos). I am a big fan of the chicken tacos at Julio's (it's on Duval around 40-somethingth). I know people who are wild about the fish tacos at Z Tejas. If you just want absolutely killer Mexican food, not necessarily tacos though I think they have some good tacos, go to Las Manitas at 2d and Congress. If you want an elegant experience go to Fonda San Miguel, a really gorgeous restaurant (expensive but worth it) and order the tacos de cochinita pibil/soft tacos with pork. If it's 2 a.m. and you want fast food that's better than fast food really should be, go to Taco Cabana and get steak fajita tacos. Also, Taco Shack is getting a following of fans, though I'm living in Dallas right now and haven't gotten to try Taco Shack on my visits home. Maudie's has good Tex-Mex-esque food (but fresh and not greasy -- it's Tex Mex esque because for example you can get tacos in crispy shells with grated cheese, or this excellent taco salad). I am forgetting to include all sorts of really good tacos, but you can't swing a cat in Austin without finding a place that has good tacos. This is making me so hungry thinking about tacos, I can't stand it and I'm going home to cook. Others Taco Bell and Chipotle Mexican Grill but i like tacobell Homemade Shredded Beef in a fried tortilla shell with lettuce tomato and pico de gallo salsa and some grated cheddar or queso fresco. Taco Bell? bleeech, cat food! Taco Bell and Dairy Queen. What kind of tacos? Breakfast or just Mexican? Breakfast tacos in Austin should ONLY be purchased at Juan in a Million on Cesar Chavez. Get the Don Juan. You won't be sorry. Austin has many many Mexican food restaurants that all serve great tacos. Try Maudie's, Hula Hut, Chuy's, Taco Shack, Matt's El Rancho, etc. The answer to that has always been Porfirios out on 183 south. |
