Anyone else on here from the Austin, TX area? |
Travel Info If so, what's your favorite (and least favorite) things about the city/area and why? Travel Tips I grew up in Austin; right now I'm living in Dallas for work reasons. I have lived a lot of other places from NYC to horrible rural nowheres, and am now old enough to tune out just about anything that used to annoy me about Austin. OK, so it's not New York and it's not Chicago but that's comparing apples and oranges; I just find I ultimately miss Austin too much when I'm away. My favorite thing about Austin is: Everything except the traffic -- weather, food, music, restaurants, Town Lake hike and bike trail, Barton Springs, Las Manitas, the Paramount Theater...oh, yeah, and the UT law library...and all the cultural/performing arts stuff at UT, and Zach Scott gets some good stuff too...and peach smoothies at either Wheatsville or Whole Foods... My very least favorite thing is: The traffic on Mo-Pac and I-35 and Lamar and all kinds of other streets that are jammed with traffic. I hate the traffic....I am not too sure about the sprawl spreading out into the Hill Country...When I move back I hope to live somewhere central, if I can afford it given the way housing prices are going, and commute on my bike as often as possible to avoid the traffic. Others nope am from dallas.. been to austin couple of times though. Not any more, but I lived in south Austin and I fit right in I live in dallas now YEAH! Been here 3 months. Love it so far... Favorites - Nuno's Blues on 6th always has some fantastic harmonica action. Playing kickball. Eating at Home Slice. Least favorite - very very cranky drivers. Very mean. I lived in LA for 7 years and was never flipped off, it's happened to me twice so far. Mean old cranks! My favorite thing about Austin is the Town Lake H&B Trail. I use it multiple times per week. My dislike would be Cedar pollen for the obvious reasons. I also like good music, the Paramount Theatre, Matt's El Rancho, Loghorn Football, pretty girls and good weather. We are lucky to be here. i lived there 4 years while i attended UT. i think one of my favorite things is all that there is to do and see, i love the drive out on the west side of town like capital of texas and 2222. probably my least fav is the east side (ie. riverside), it just makes me uncomfortable to go over there. above all, i love my 6th street, the beautiful UT campus, and all the shopping and cultural activities that are available!! |
