Where to live in Austin? |
Travel Info Seeking advice on areas to live in Austin. I may be relocating in the next few months from chicago and looking for places to move my family. My research so far says the west, norht west area but I have heard the SW is being built up now as well. Work place will be southern austin so not sure of the commute from west or NW areas. Thanks for any advice in advance Travel Tips Anywhere on the west side is favorable for a family. All the neighborhoods from SW to NW are good prominent communites with good public schools. Hyde park is near UT campus and is also a good area if you prefer to live closer to downtown. Others I lived in south Austin for mannnnnny years and I loved it, If your younger (20-40) and enjoy music and mingling with hippies and enjoy the nite life the town has to offer your gonna want to go south of the river. If your a stuffed shirt go north around anderson mill lane or even round rock I think it's important to be on the right side of Town Lake. Traffic can be terrible on either MoPac or I-35-- maybe not Chicago-level, but getting worse and worse. There are plenty of good options in both areas. I'm in NW Austin, but South Austin has a lot more character-- South Congress, South Lamar, etc. And both have easy access to downtown and the Hill Country. More and more things that used to be just in North (like Central Market) are now in the South. yeah i lived in austin for 4 years there is a lake out west called lake travis youll see when you get there its a really nice area with alot of nice neighborhoods and good dining out there. Very nice area. Full of hills and oak trees. Wealth is high out there as you will see. Northwest is where i lived in a suburb town called cedar park, its also a nice area middle class to upperclass area nice malls and shopping and dining. i would also look at an area called pflugerville, round rock area too. Property in austin and suburbs is very competitive and cheap compared to other parts of the country. Austin is a growing city with tons of recreation and sights and sounds to see. It all depends on what kind of money you have. South east side is the side that isnt all that good. Even downtown has nice older houses that are in the middle of a nice downtown area, its gonna be pricey downtown but its a very fun city the downtown area is very trendy and hip. I loved it there and hopefully will return in a year to live. I will be trying to move out towards west too near the lake area. |
