What suburbs of Austin, TX have affordable housing, decent job market and a great school system? |
Travel Info My family and I currently live in Delaware and have lived in various states on the east coast. We are sick of the winters and my husband and son suffers from allergies that are further aggrivated by the seasonal changes. We are interested in a location that have very mild winters where snow is almost non-existant. We are also looking for a place with reasonably priced housing and a great school system. Any advice on what Austin suburbs to look at? Thanks for the help in advance. Travel Tips The City of Round Rock, which just north of Austin has more affordable housing than Austin, good schools and good jobs. The job market in North Austin is also quite good. I have to warn you though, before you decide on Austin, allergies are a major problem here. Primarily, molds, cedar, oak, elm and grasses. Other than that, it's one of the best places to live in the U.S. Most of the good schools are in the northern, central and western parts of the city. Where to live will probably have something to do with where you're employed. Check out Austin360.com and Statesman.com Others You might want to check Round Rock, Pflugerville, Leander and Cedar Park. Depending on where you will work, you may want to look more into RR and Pflugerville as they are more easily accessible by highway. Cedar Park and Leander have highway construction that are not yet complete. When they are, those 2 areas will be easier to get to as well. As for allergy sufferers, I hate to warn you that Austin is one of the worst places in the country for that. You may want to do a little more research on it. I know that our largest problems seem to be with cedar and mold, so you may want to see how that would affect your family. Aside from that, this is a beautiful town and a wonderful place to live! Good luck! Marble falls is a nice place with good schools its an hour from austin and has beautiful lakes! Lakeway is closer with great schools and bee caves is a great town that is growing fast its onyl 15 mins from south austin. Round Rock is still affordable (according to one of my brothers) and has good schools and a good job market... if you have to live in Austin I'd much rather be in Williamson County than Travis County. I don't know about too many allergies except cedar (one of my relatives), but I live in Houston. Why are you looking at suburbs? Why not live in the city of Austin itself? My aunt and uncle live in Leander. I visited, and that seems like a very nice suburb. Housing was still affordable (but that was 2 years ago -- don't know current conditions). . Austin ISD is an awesome school district with an extremely low teacher turnover, Round Rock ISD is good as well as Kyle. You'll love living in Austin, as well the rest of the Hill Country!!!
