Travel Tips
South by Southwest is during spring break, so if you start planning it now, you can check out tons of bands and/or movies.

To figure out which venues will be available without badges or tickets, check the Austin Chronicle the week of spring break.
http://www.austinchronicle.com Or just head down to 6th street (between Congress and I35) and get some excellent people-watching in as you bar hop.

Also, you can hang out in the greenbelt, swimming or wading in the river and natural pools, or hiking on the trails.

If you have a car, go to Hamilton Pool.

A cool spring-fed pool in the middle of town, next to several great restaurants (Mangia, Magnolia Cafe) is Deep Eddy.

If the weather doesn't cooperate, the Capitol is free and so are the tours; it's cooler than you think it's gonna be. (11th and Congress) I'm not a big fan of the Bullock Museum myself (it's kind of a repeat of 7th grade Texas History classes), but UT has a nice new museum at San Jacinto and MLK, the Blanton.

Also on campus, the Texas Memorial Museum is small but has dinosaurs, which is still cool even though we're not kids anymore.

Also check out the Carver Museum. http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/carver/...

Also, if the weather ain't great, go to the drag (Guadelupe, between MLK and 24th St.) or South Congress (from the river to Oltorf) for cool shopping and coffee shops. Best pizza is on South Congress at Homeslice. http://www.homeslicepizza.com/

There are also some nice shops on Lamar between 15th and 5th streets, with Whole Foods, Bookpeople and Waterloo Records down by 5th and Austin Java Co. and Whole Earth Provision company down by 15th. Waterloo has a great selection of music and has a concert ticket counter. Cheapo at 10th and Lamar has tons of used CDs and DVDs.

Mostly, though, I'd enjoy the Greenbelt by day and the downtown nightlife/SXSW by night.

For getting around safely after going out, see if any of the Night Owl buses go by where you'll be staying.

Have fun!

get drunk swap girlfreinds & drink somemore, do 6th street
Party on the river but dont piss on the Alamo, Ozzy did and they kicked him out of Texas! Didn't see the longhorn thing, GIG EM' AGGIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
Well, since I live in Austin I know for a fact......Austin has the best parties and night clubs, don't miss out on those! And if you love the Horns, go see a UT basketball game or a football game. But if you're not interested in that you can always take a boring trip to the capital! Or go see a IMAX!!! Or the Bob Bullet Museum, which isn't so bad.
I think that Spring Break usually coincides with SXSW. If so, that's a great time! I think that wristbands are going on sale soon, if they haven't already. If you don't want to splurge on one, just being downtown, drinking and people watching is fun during SXSW. Otherwise, if weather permits, going to the lake is always fun, I'm sure that you can rent a nice boat for the week!
amd730 has to be an aggie.... the Alamo is in San Antonio not Austin. Is this what they teach in College Station?
Go to Acapulco
