Should we move from denver to austin?

Travel Info
we're a family with 2 young kids (3yrs old, 20 mos) and we've heard great things about austin. what area has the best schools and nice homes? is it pretty family oriented there? what's the weather like? is it really humid in the summers?

Travel Tips
Ive heard Austin is a lot like Denver....but I'm guessing the seasons will be switched. Be prepared to wear shorts for most of the year instead of jackets. In August the average temp is 100. but the winters are nice and mild. It is not as humid as Houston, but it does get humid. Just make sure your air works in your car!!
Best schools would be North - suburbs are Round Rock and Pflugerville. They are pretty good school districts and have good neighborhoods. If you go into Austin, stay away from east of I35. It gets shady on the east side once u get into Austin. West and Northwest Austin are also very nice places to live. Around the 360 area/Capital of Tx Hwy is very nice...a bit pricey but not too far north in the Jollyville area is a litle more decent priced and still in a good neighborhood. Source(s): lived there 25 yrs

Other Travel Tips
It has good schools and you can get a nice home for a better price than you can get in Denver. Austin is miserably hot (not just humid) in the summertime, the town is geared to young people and students (although there are plenty of family things to do), the economy is heavily dependent on tech (which makes it boom-bust), and there are many, many over qualified people who want to live there.

Try Dallas Ft Worth if you want family oriented and job security, although it has no pretty lakes and hills like Austin.
Austin is great and does have nice homes. We do have great schools, but research the areas...some are not as great as they would like you to think. There are several kids going to private school these days. The area is very family oriented, the weather is beautiful most days and YES the summers are HUMID.

BTW..Austin has a great Children's Museum

Good Luck to you.
