Travel Tips
Lucky you. Austin is one of the best places in Texas to live. Filled with forward thinkers. Liberals and conservatives agree to disagree. It's the most laid back place to go in Texas. No fluff. Real people, artists of all kinds, true Texans, the best music and great food. It's true eclectica. Their mantra: Keep Austin Wierd. If you are the type that can hang with the cool people, you'll thrive there. If you are open minded, you'll love it. If you prefer the bigcityfancyhouseandcaranddesi... lifestyle, you'd probably be happier in Houston, where I live. People in Austin are more down to earth, nitty gritty types. Job market is good, rent is higher than Houston but more in line with the rest of the U.S.

it is awsome i went there over the summer
Very very liberal like San Francisco. Reasonable housing. Job market has not recovered yet. Beautiful place to live if you are a liberal.
I was born and raised in Austin. Although I am not old enough to experience things such as job market and rent since I'm still in high school, I can tell you that it is a wonderful place to live by far. Also, my sister and her husband live in a duplex type situation and it seems to be working out very well for both of them, it's a nice place, and they are still young. Austin is 1)Beautiful. 2)Diverse. 3)VERY unique. 4)Quite large, but not Chicago large, just right(about 705,000, 1.5 million metroplex area). 5)Friendly. 6)"Forward thinking." 7)I HAVE read that the economy is booming. 8)Always interesting.9)Lots to do.10)One of the most prestigious schools in the country.11)Too many to list. Can't wait to see you here!
It was very easy for me to find an apartment (this was about 2 years ago, mind you, but I've never heard of someone not being able to find an open apartment). Prices for them vary depending on where you're looking -- basically, the closer you get to the UT campus/downtown area, the more expensive they are. And I've seen plenty of homes for rent as well.

It's a great city to live in -- quick to get around (the traffic seems bad to some, but I used to live in Houston -- it doesn't compare!), lots of things to do -- be it music, shopping, eating out -- culturally diverse and quite liberal. And the mass transit isn't too shabby either, if you can't get around by car.
as a long time resident of AUS, I can tell you that Austin is an absolute jewel of a town with a great job market --especially for "creative" types. Austin is an educated and pretty cosmopolitan place with a lot more International influences than it has any right to have (especially given its location). All in all a laid back place and one I am very, very fortunate to call home.
been here 12 years, great place to live, pay is ok, rent is high, traffic is bad, but overall there are so many good reasons to be here

weather today is so beautiful
