Moving to Austin, Texas, need advice!!? |
Travel Info Thinking about moving there next summer. I'm planning on a visit to chcek out the place. Have read a lot of great stuff. Any suggestion on places to go to get a feel of Austin? We have a four year old. Travel Tips I am sooooo tired of this question. People from Austin respond to this question all the time. You can search for it in the top section that says "search for questions". I know it is a crazy thought. Plus you can do some research on the internet. Try these sites. http://austin.about.com/od/localstatisti... http://austin.about.com/od/neighborhoods... http://www.austinrelocationguide.com... http://www.city-data.com/forum/austin/13... http://www.city-data.com/city/austin-tex... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/austin,_tex... Others Make sure to shake out your shoes every morning before you put them on. Them scorpions love hiding in them. =) Hello, I moved up to Austin from Houston about 6 years ago. It is a very relaxed and healthy town. Zilker Park is fun for kids and has the Zooligical Society on premise too. You have to have dinner at "The Oasis"...get there early and sit outside on one of the decks...glorious views of the sunset across hill country.http://www.oasis-austin.com/ GL The Children's Museum is also very good. There are lots of opportunities for camping and outdoor activities to the west of town. Lots of fun places to go with your kid in the summer.Good neigborhoods and affordable homes. You can move to the North Austin if you've got a car but the fun happens in the downtown. There are cool places in the South and West. I would check out Lake Austin/Lake Travis.... they have great restaurants out there, like ski shores, lucy's boatyard, etc. Also, check out downtown! they have a lot of different sights to see, like the bob bullock history museum, the capitol, the also have carriage rides downtown, and summer is a really great time to go and do that. If you are thinking about moving to Austin and need a school for your child, check out Hyde Park. They have a great pre-k/kindergarten. www.hpbs.org It goes up all the way to 12th grade, and has a really well-rounded curriculum. they have incredible teachers. i have been going there for quite a while now. hope this helps... :-) i live in leander. right outside of austin. for a 4 year old, leander or cedar park are great cities with a great school district. in austin, zilker park is great and so is the childrens musuem. suggest you dont go to 6th street though with a 4 year old. food is fantastic. by the way where are you now? |
