Travel Info hello iam going to be relocating to austin texas and iam now looking at apartments but i have never been there before and am wondering if there are bad areas i should stay away from or if anybody knows any good apartment complexes in good areas or if they advice me on some now so good complexes also i now thats a big college town and a lot of those apartment complexes cater to the college students and a lot i have look at over the internet seem that way just wondering do those complexes require you to be student to move in any help would be great thanks Travel Tips don't go east Others Yoah Bob, never mind the first idiot, listen to the second one......HA HA No, really Austin, Texas is beautiful, a really awesome college town. Though I cannot advise you what part of town is the best, I do have a suggestion. I was looking for property the other day and posted an information wanted in freecycle and got all kinds of information. I'm sure that freecycle Austin Texas is a very busy port. Post your questions there under information wanted, wanting to reach the people. It's been far to many years since I lived there, more like 20 years. Good Luck http://www.freecycle.org if you move further south stay away from the east areas, try to stay north/northwest its where i live there is less crime and its quieter if you need some good info on apts email me and i will tell you some good ones in your price range.....im the apartment researcher for my entire family so i can tell you which ones you will get for the best money my email is in my profile. just let me know how much you want to pay and what size and ill get back to you soon At the corner of South Lamar and HWY 71 (Ben White Blvd.) are nice apartments - it is behind a Target and blocks away from two big healthfood groceries and a block from Starbucks - easy access to the Austin highway system. My friend has a 2 BDRM for $650.00 (this is a good price for Austin.) You don't have to be a student to live in these places. Also as a note Lamar Blvd runs directly through the entirety of Austin. This would be a good place to start a life here. Stay away from the East Side of I-35 (the ghetto side of town)unless it is only 3-5 blocks off the highway. Also stay away from (high crime) areas off of 183 between I-35 and Hwy 1 (Mopac) - this is in North Austin but not all of North Austin is bad like this neighborhood. Best area if you like to be near downtown and get the funky old Austin feel is down South First Street or South Congress between Riverside and Ben White (Zip Code 78704) Trendier areas & more expensive will all be off Hwy 1 (locals call it Mopac) - Spicewood Springs Road is a good start and a good area. Close to down town and off Mopac: Zilker Park area has some very nice apartments around it. I am not totally familiar with North Austin but I know a lot of people who like areas out 183 and far north heading toward Round Rock. My opinion is that North Austin has no personality - it is all shopping strips with the same stores as every other city in the U.S. and traffic is annoying up there. Traffic here is becoming very very unpredicable and I would stay out of all surrounding little towns like Round Rock. I would head Southside of downtown, i.e. South Congress, South First, South Lamar. The people are less pretentious - some are very hippy, interesting shops, lots of healthy places to eat and shop, near downtown and the entertainment district and access to highways so you can get to work easy. If you are really short on cash their is a street named Manchaca - Nothing but apartments for 2 miles. Manchaca connects diagonally from (Hwy 71) Ben White Blvd to South Lamar. This isn't the best of areas but it is a good location and may have some worthwhile deals. I've driven down this road many times. There are some really nice places and a few that look really "low rent". I live in South Austin on East William Cannon Dr.My neighborhood is calm and peaceful and beautiful homes here too.KB homes. A new storey house is still available for sale.I'm not an advertiser. There are lots of UT students in my area but who cares whether you will go to school or not. You only don't have to be a nuisance to the residents, that's all. Accessible bus route,if you have to use the bus like i do. A community swimmingpool for your relaxation. |
