What is crime rates in Austin?

Travel Info
I go there soon and wondered what crime is like....I know is big city, and I come from Rome (pick-pocket capital of world!) so am use to big cities....is crime better or worse than in Rome?

Travel Tips
Like all cities there are just some places in Austin you wouldn't go after dark. As far as crime in the U.S, Austin has some of the lowest crime rate in the country. In Austin you are more likely to be talked to death by a total stranger, than to be messed with. Good Luck and Welcome to Texas!
Others
The crime rate is probably somewhat lower than most big U.S. cities, but of course you should still be careful and be aware of your surroundings.
Compared to Europe, any U.S. city has more violent crime, but probably less pick-pocketting than Rome.
Hope you have fun in Austin!
better I would assume, but check out the police website they have crime rates per zipcode.
Violent crime is pretty low in Austin and there aren't any real bad areas to avoid. Most of the crime is stuff like break-ins, car thefts, etc.
