Where are the best places to live in Austin? |
Travel Info I am relocating to Austin soon and I wondered if anyone could give me heads up as to which areas are the "better areas" to live i.e. low crime, low cost of living, etc.?? Travel Tips North You can also check the austin police website for sex offenders and crime rates if that helps. Others South Austin all the way!! You will love it.....stay away from the eastside....good culture but crime is a little higher there. there is a place called Hyde Park, i don't know where it is but it is very peacefully place. I'm sure you are going to love it. stay out of east austin Go to realtor.com, click on "find a community" under search and then key in a zip code, such as 78746. That will give you the stats on each one. I lived in SW Austin which has low crime and reasonably lower cost of living vs. LA where I live now. Many people live in Buda, Kyle, Pflugerville or even commute from Fredericksburg which have homes in the low $100's. The east side is still rough but is becoming gentrified like Hyde Park in central Austin. This area begins just east of I35. Hyde Park has pockets of tranquility, Volvos and areas that aren't yet gentrified. I preferred the live oaks, wildflowers and stone homes of the suburbs of Circle C Ranch. lived in Austin until January 2007 Northwest is the most affluent area but expensive....Central Austin is probly the best, centrally located, older so not as expensive, try around 45th St or off Lamar..good luck! you'll love it here! |
