Travel Info Should I bring U.S. Dollars to Germany or use Euros? Travel Tips Euros are the official currency, but there is a very easy way to get them. Talk to your bank and make sure you have a PLUS or CIRRUS code on the back of your ATM card. You can then directly draw money off your account in the US in EUROS, with a great exchange rate. Taking travelers checks to Germany is OK, but there are hefty fees and not everybody takes them. The trick is to talk to your bank first and see if there is a way to upgrade your account so that you will pay lower or NO fees (PNC bank has an option for no fees with foreign ATMs) I save 7% by doing this and have the ease of getting cash whenever I need it as there are ATMs (Geldautomaten) allover Germany.
