Can we change our travel plans after getting a schengen visa?

While getting this Visa we provided details of our hotel stays.
Now we need to change that hotel as we are gtting better ones and also the no of days in each city.

Overall trip is still well withing the expiry period of visa.

Can we do that? If yes do we have to contact the consulate again.

Provided you do not exceed the number of days granted by the visa (not to be confused with the period of validity of the visa), you may change your hotels. If you change the country of your main destination and enter the Schengen area via a country that is not the one which has issued the visa, border control authorities may ask why you are doing so.
