How much does it cost to RENT a cell phone in the Bahamas? |
Travel Info I will be heading to the Bahamas (Nassau) December 15-December 30. I would like to know how much it costs to RENT a celluar phone. I read someone you can rent one out from Balteco, but I can't remember how much it costs. Thanks! Travel Tips It's $49.00 for a week and 1.14/min for calls back to the States. If you're cruising there, check with the cruise lines first because most of them have cellular possibilities now so your regular cell phone will work. Other Travel Tips u can buy a pre pay one here and acctivate it there..... mins will be a lil ore but u can find a phone here for 19.99 Bahamas uses TDMA (old tech) and PCS (GSM 1900). If you have a T-Mobile or Cingular PCS phone, it'll work there. For $49, it'd be easier to roam on your existing PCS account than to rent. You also have the option of buying a prepaid sim when you get there (if you have a PCS phone). A PCS phone that you take there for a new sim instead of roaming has to be unlocked. If you got a PCS phone at a discount through a plan, they lock the phone to one operator. If you paid full price for the phone, it's probably already unlocked. You can bypass that legally by finding an unlock code for it on the Internet or taking it to a shop that will unlock it for you. |
