What is the life style of the people of the Bahamas? |
Travel Info What is the life style of the people of the Bahamas? Travel Tips This is a very general question, but I'll try to answer as best I can. The people of the Bahamas are of various cultures and nationalities (kind of a smaller US). We have Former African slaves (natives) which are the majority, Haitian migrants, British descendants and expats, American and Canadian expats, Chinese business owners and many many others.. Therefore each culture and nationality kinda have their own lifestyles in the Bahamas. So I'll tackle this form an average native Bahamian living in Nassau (the capital) point of view. On Sundays, most Bahamians go to a weekly Church service, Baptist being the majority. Monday - Friday is usually facing the daily traffic to get to their jobs. Most work in the tourism industry at the mega resorts like Atlantis, and Radison etc.. another huge majority work for the Government and its agencies and semi governmental utility corporations. Government work is deemed as a safe job and more laid back. Saturdays and holidays are usually spent at the beaches and local cook-outs. They are very much modernized in terms of they do not live in conditions less than most american cities. They have a very low unemployment rate due to the fact that to work in the bahamas you have to be a citizen or provide a skill they could not provide for themselves. They have a great culture of their own and build an amazing gov't system to make sure that they do not fall into poverty. I would say that the Bahamas is a flourishing island nation that most other countries should use as a governmental model |
