Holidays in Barbados with 4year old?

I love the carabbean islands and can't wait to return there on holidays. Trouble is now I've got a 4 year old boy and I wonder if the 8 hour flight is going to be hell, and if he is going to cope with time difference. What is your opinion. Do you think I should wait for a few more years ? Have you had a similar experience? Thanks
