Is it true that person who is not married and does'nt work or don't do business is not eligible to get visa.

one of my friend wish to apply for swiss tourist visa and is being invited by his relative for 15 days stay at switzerland. what can she or he should do. he does'nt want to go with any tour operators. please advice. thanks.

yup its true, especially if he his young, because they will think that he is gonna stay there,

You do not need a visa (if you are US citizen) to go to Switzerland. Just a valid passport.
You can stay there up to 90 days with no problems.

Where did you get this idea to have a visa if you are not married and not working!!!! Call any Swiss consulats. Anyone can travel there, especially if your friends has relative there.
