Where is worth a visit in belgium? |
Travel Info Where is worth a visit in belgium? Travel Tips Everywhere. First off, understand that any trip to Belgium is all about decadence. After all, the four food groups of Belgium are waffles, fries, chocolate and beer. If you like any of these things, you'll love Belgium. Brussels is the obvious place to start. The Grand'Place in the center of town is one of Europe's best central squares: it's gorgeous. Also nice in Brussels are the large number of art nouveau bars, beautiful places to have a drink. North of Brussels in Flanders, where Dutch (or Flemish) is the native language. This area is flat, with several beautiful old medieval cities. My favorites are Bruges and Ghent (Brugge and Gent in Flemish), both with great canals, good restaurants, and interesting markets. Also nice in Flanders is the coast. While Ostend (Oostende) is the best known place, my favorite is a little known town called De Haan. The buildings there echo the turn of the century, making you feel like someone out of a silent movie. South of Brussels is Wallonia, where they speak French. The land here is hillier with more woods. My favorite choice here is to take the train from Namur to Dinant. Both towns have awesome citadels worth exploring, but both are also very friendly and stroll-worthy. Belgium is one of the true gems of Europe, with friendly people and great food. Especially the fries. And the waffles. And the beer. And the chocolate. Dang, now I've got to go back! Others If you still have time left visit the renewed Atomium. It was made for the worldfare and is an atom. You have a great view there. And indeed worth visiting is Knokke-Heist and Damme, Brugge, Gent, Dinant, Bastogne and many more. Enjoy Belgium. I was there a couple of years ago. Visit a town called Brugge (or maybe it is spelled Bruge.) Anyway, it is pretty old, but is really cool. Dress warmly. It is always cold there, even in July. bruges is the main place in belgium that everybody visits, it has a great old, preserved medieval center and tons of flemish art. i was there about a month ago. also, ghent, antwerp, and brussels are all worth visiting. belgium is very small, so it's real easy to get from one town to the next via train or car. brussels is definitely the "big city" feel place, and there's a lot to do there as well. if you visiting belgium as part of a larger trip, brussels and antwerp both are on the main rail line between paris and amsterdam. Depends on what you're interested in, and used to. I like to go kayaking in the Ardennes - it's mellow, and you can relax afterwards and drink great beer. Brussels is superb, had some great parties there and like strolling around. People are very nice. You can also try Knokke-Heist - it's resort town on the beach - 20 minutes from Brugge. Great houses, happening cafes and a casino. Great for swimming, surfing or just people-watching. Also the home to the most famous Belgian Waffle house - Mme. Siska. |
