Can a USA citizen teacher find a job in Belgium? |
Travel Info Also speaking Spanish but not French nor Flemish Travel Tips Well, at least you could try to contact the "European School" or the "American School", both based in Brussels. And yes, N.AT.O. sure needs good English-speaking teachers for the employees' children. Besides that, a lot of american companies posess a Belgian off-spin based in the Brussels area. Good luck! :-) Hugo from Brussels, Belgium. Others Generally speaking Americans cannot legally work in Europe without a work permit. It occurs to me that you might consider trying for a position with the American NATO command teaching the children of military dependents. I can't be entirely sure without checking but I believe the status of forces agreement allows the American military to hire American civilian contractors for employment at their bases without regard to local law concerning work permits. Belgium especially Brussels is overcrowded with spouses following their mate to the country. The job market is overcrowded with many qualified people so you should have realistic expectations of not finding something worthy for up to two years. My recommendation is to start learning one of the country's official languages as soon as possible as most of the jobs require fr/nl/en speaking people. On the other hand, if you search good, send applications insistently and are bit lucky you can find something good. Me Try this link for employment with the DOD Schools. http://www.eu.dodea.edu/ Good Luck! |
