Where to go for lads weekend in brussels.?

Travel Info
My mate is 40 and we decided on brussels, looking for central located hotspots...

Travel Tips
Start with Grand Place, this is the square near the Central Station where the City Hall and national museum is located. There are many beautiful buildings there to photograph, chocolate shops, lace shops (go to the generationally famous Maison Antoinette--Victor Hugo lived in that building in 1852!), a famous local artist who sells watercolour paintings, occassionally some street performers, and many many cafes. Must have Belgian beer (Stella Artois is standard, I recommend Leffe Bruin if you like dark beer, Hoegaarden if you like white beer, and Kriek is the cherry-flavoured beer) and a pot of hot steamy Zealand mussels. If you're into stamp- or coin-collecting, old books, fashion boutiques, antiques & curiosa, check out the Passage nearby (the nice semi-outdoors one with the authentic European feel, not the one crowded with people selling leather jackets and fashion accessories). For fine dining, just pick one of the authentic Belgian restaurants there near the passage, you won't be disappointed. Belgian cuisine is considered fine gourmet and these days it has a higher rating than French cuisine. Also, a famous Brussels landmark is the Mannekin Pis (peeing statue). Don't forget to have a warm Belgian waffle as you stroll down the streets.

Another spot I like in Brussels is Place St Catherine. Many cafes alongside the canal, a huge Cathedral, and many places to go dancing. My favourite place would be Los Romanticos salsa bar--great dancing and famous for Spanish tapas, it's a lot of fun.

If you know people from the European Parliament or one of those international other institutions, you can probably ask them to give you a tour.

If you're gonna be in Brussels over a Thursday or Friday evening, be sure to take the metro to Merode and go to the akaZoe art bar at Avenue des Celtes 19. They always have great affordable gigs from 8PM till late to suit any music & art lover. If you're gonna be there during the day, Park Centennaire (uh dunno if I spelt it right) is just next door, it's just a pleasant spot to bum around and enjoy the sun. I'm Belgian
Pubs are everywhere (welcome in Belgium), some are open from early in the morning till the evening, others all night long...
You find some good ones around the Beurs (the stock exchange, close to the market square) and in the streets opposite of this building (cross the boulevard, at the left corner you see an Irish pub, follow that street).

There are some good clubs but these are more difficult to find. I'll search some sites and put them in the source list. At most of them you will not be allowed if you are drunk or not well-dressed.

Red light areas are in the north of the city center (rue de commercants, Rue Van Gaver,...) and behind the Nord Station (Aarschotstraat).
