Do you have any travel tips for me for Bruges,Belgium?

currency, things to see, things to avoid. going by eurostar

Travel Tips
to avoid: nothing, there are no dangerous zones.

language: Dutch is official, but English is widely spoken. French is a foreign language here, to say 'bonjour' is ridiculous! Save your French for a visit to Brazil LOL.

to see: everything outside the train station. The whole city is one big museum of the middle ages, except everything's still inhabited and being used. The city council convenes in the same room since 1432! And nuns still live at the historic Begijnhof. Those things make it much more authentic than, say, Venice or Tuscany.

Going by Eurostar? Forget what the others say about switching trains at Brussels! London-Brussels calls at Lille, and stewards will help you switch trains there, very user-friendly.

What not to miss: spend the night here! When the Brussels-based Japanese daytrippers have left, the office workers, nuns and teenagers take over. Also, Brugge is cheaper and safer at night than Brussels, and infinitely more 'Belgian'.

PS Dutch and French speaking Belgians don't hate each other, they just live in different provinces, with natural borders. This is not Qu茅bec.

its a long walk
the currency is the euro. French is the language so it would be nice to know a little french like Bonjour, excuse moi, pardon, merci, etc..... The cathedrals are great sites as well as the museums. Your best bet is to ask the locals what to do when you get there or contact the tourist center they will have discounts, maps, and lots of good info.
u can use d eurostar, its only like 3 hrs journey to brussels;very rarely u find some1 who speak english so asking questions will get u nowhere;u can visit most attractions in a day; currency is euro, expensive city; have mussels with chips and their cherry beer but either go early to a restaurant or wait for hours;ride their horse-drawn carriage and go to the lake of love (just for the sake of the riding a carriage but the lake of love is not very picturesque); climb their tallest tower, 300 or so feet high (in the market square);sometime in december they have their Christmas parade, check out when its going to be;but I would just recommend it as a day tour; got somewhere else the next day like a day trip to brussels, or dinant...enjoy!
get there early take lots of pics
French is NOT the language - it is Flemish (more or less Dutch). However English is widely spoken and understood. You must appreciate that the Flemish speaking Belgians hate the French speakers and vice versa (they are confined to their own respective parts of the country and only Brussels is bilingual).
Bruges is a beautiful city that needs to be explored on foot (go for a boat trip on the canal as well) - it isn't particularly big and hasn't changed much from the late middle ages when the city was extremely rich and important.
To get there by Eurostar you must change at Brussels. Services to Bruges are frequent (And it's Brugge in Flemish - Bruges is the French spelling so don't expect to see that name on the station nameboard!)
Don't miss out on the chocolate and the beer. Even the most basic cafe will sell a bewildering variety of beers, mostly in bottle. There will always be some sort of beer menu you can look at. Be adventurous and try the 'abbey' and 'trappist' ales in particular
- for heaven's sake don't drink Stella!
Expect prices of most things to be broadly in line with Britain.
At any time you should try to avoid speaking French in Brugges. You would be better off speaking English.

It is such a small place that you don't need any tips, you will discover all by yourself in one day.

If the weather is nice it can be crowded and nice but if not you will hate it.

There are a lot of racist people in North Parts of Belgium so I would be careful when I am away from the general tourist attractions.

Eurostart arrives to Brussels Midi and then you will need to take another train to Brugges.
