Recommendation for historical towns to visit in belgium?

Travel Info

Travel Tips
If you have time to spare: go to Durbuy, in the Ardennes, the smallest town the world. And it's very pretty too. Then there's R茅du, a small town in Wallonia famous for one single thing: books. Then we have Antwerp, known for its Golden Century (Rubens, a lot of commerce) until the Spanish started to slug it out with the Dutch, and it's currently famous for its fashion and cultural life. Brussels isn't too bad either (it's not all Eurocentric modernist crap, you know) and of course Bruges, the largest open-air museum of Belgium (and never mind that most of it consists of 19th century copies). Finally, there's Ghent, which conveniently combines the cool of Antwerp with the antiquity of Bruges. All of this and a lot more -Dinant, Namur, Kortrijk (Guldensporenslag), Leuven, Ieper (WWI), Luik, Bouillon- tightly wrapped in one wee little country! Great huh? And if you're into war tourism, check out the somewhat tacky (the soldiers carry packs of Lucky Strikes with 'Smoking Kills' signs on them) yet impressive museum in Bastogne. Nuts! Other Travel Tips
Definitely Bruges and maybe Liege too? I like Liege.

If you like The Arts and Museums the best place is here in Antwerp we have about 80 museums and churches.
Bruges stinks (they don't clean the roads much enough full of horse droppings).
There's a lot of history in Ghent , Bruges , Antwerp , Brussels ( the old part ) Bastogne ( WW2 ) and a lot more .
Visit their web sites for more detailed information .
Bruges is great, take a boat tour if you can. Ghent is amazing for the architecture alone. Also, you can try some of the small towns that can give a real feel for the country. Mons is great, it even has a movie for tourists to see at the tourism office. I don't know what time of year you are going, but there are a lot of great old festivals that take place at different times during the year.
Lived there.
