It would be far easier for you to contact the Belgium Tourist Office. They will tell you more than you could ever get here (no matter how well intentioned people are) and it's only a matter of a phone call or email to them and they'll send you a mountain of information. Let's face it, they WANT you to go there!

There's Mini Europe, which is a little theme park, and the main attraction there are the miniatures of popular landmarks all over Europe. Very well-done replicas of the originals. Worth strolling through. The rest of the shops and other attractions aren't that great. From Brussels definitely take a day trip to Bruges, where you'll have a far better time. Wonderfully quaint old port city with lots to see just walking around. Old churches, the town square, etc. Plenty to eat and drink, shops to look at, and high quality Belgian chocolates (I don't mean mere truffles either).
Brussels is unfortunately not the best city to visit because there aren't a lot of "touristy" things to do, but it's a great place to live. The people are very friendly (for Europeans, that is) and very open to international visitors and residents, since the European Parliament and Commission are here. It is primarily French-speaking, but there are pockets of Dutch speakers, and at least half the city speaks English as a second language. The best part of living here is that the food, beer, and chocolate are the best in the world! The worst part is that the weather sucks; it seems like it rains almost every day.

If you come for a visit, you should see the Grand Place, the Atomium, The Mannekin Pis, go to lots of museums (http://www.trabel.com/brussel/brussels-m... and try as much beer as possible- there are over 1000 different kinds!

Brussels Is fun, many things to see and visit....
Aaaah Brussels, famous only for its beers, chocolats, food , the grand Place, Manneken Pis and all the other beautiful tourist spots mentionned in answers below???
NO!! There is so much more to this city than meets the eye. You could go to Tervuren by puclic transport (Tram 44 from Tube station Montgomery) and visit their magnificent park. You could visit the many excellent Jazz bars. You could go to the Toone puppet theatre. You could visit the Marollen, the Arab market near the Midi train station, the Matonge area, etc etc etc etc.

When going there for a while get to know on of the locals instead of an ex pat. It will enhance your experience thousand fold. Please go and enjoy yourself. It is a great city with great people. By the way most of the Flemish speakers are fluent enough in English. And if you get really stuck there are some english speaking bars (mostly Irish theme pubs) near the Schuman tube station where they will definitely help you.

Goede Reis, Bon Voyage
