Travel Info Brugge or Brussels to visit? We are going on a cruise and we have the choice of the two cites.? Travel Tips It really depends on what you like and what you want to visit. Bruges is definitely the nicest to wander around. It's a fairy tale town, with beautifull houses and monuments, little cobblestone roads, a windmill, canals (Bruges was called The Venice of the North), a park with lakes, little chocolate shops, horses and chariots... It's so small you can do everything by foot. But in the same time: yes, it's touristy and you will bump into large groups of japanese taking pictures. Brussels is more "difficult". Very few people love Brussels at first sight. Often because people don't know where to go. They'll find Brussels grey. It's a big, very diverse city. You can't just go sightseeing like in Bruges. The most beautiful things are often hidden. So, what is there? Well, the most beautiful market square in western Europe (Grand Place), some beautiful galeries (Galeries St Hubert), the atomium, Manneken Pis, le Sablon and most important of all: the art museums! Bruges' museums don't even come close to what you find in Brussels. I live in Brussels, and I love the city. But if you're going on a one day trip, I'd recommand Bruges. If you like museums, go for Brussels and buy a good city guide. Whatever choice you make, I'm sure you'll have a good time. Have a nice trip! Source(s): I live in Belgium and know both Brussels and Bruges very well. Other Travel Tips This depends on how much time you have to visit each place. you need at least one day for Brugge which is known as the Venice of the north because of all the canals, and two to three days for the Capital Brussels personal experience Brussel!!! Brugge is plastic. i say Brussels As FIRRIP said it properly: Bruges is "handelable" within one day but Brussels will take you more time to discover it cuz it's a wider city... |
