Statue on the wall in brussels? |
Travel Info was in brussels the other day and saw this gold coloured statue type thing on the wall, everybody that went past it touched it... what is it and why was everybody touching it? Travel Tips The gold colored type thing you saw was actually a copper colored thing. It was the statue of Everaerd 't Serclaes, a Brussels folk leader and hero killed during an uprising. It was definitely not a lady: it was a man as any city guidebook will tell you. The reason why everybody touches his arm (yes his arm) is that legend has it that when you do this you will once in your life return to Brussels. Please do not do this with his neighbor Manneken Pis (110 m down the street) or you might end up at the precinct!! Others Was it the Mannequin Pis? The little boy? It's supposed to be lucky to touch it. No it's not manneke pis. This bronze statue is still on the corner side of "The grote Markt". It's a Lady and a remembrance statue, when you touch it, it says it brings good luck. Personally I find it a much better statue then manneke pis (that's when you go further in that street(not grote markt), on a corner. I know Brussels, I life here in Belgium. yeah..it is a lady ..and they were touching her breast...it brings u good luck...,..did that too..the Grote Markt.hehe |
