Have you ever been to Bermuda? |
Travel Info Tell me all about it. What time of year, how was the weather, how were the prices, do they use US currency, do you need a passport, how long was the flight, where did you stay. I am considering a vacation there, and want to know all about it. Travel Tips We went to Bermuda in mid-May to celebrate my fiance's B-day. The link below is a great resource for for professional and user reviews of hotels on Bermuda (pictures were especially helpful). Timing: The high-season is during the summer, but it was nice with moderate temperatures while we were there. Beware, Bermuda is actually not in the Caribbean, so the water is cool and it is actually much further north, which means that it will not be a warm getaway in the winter (although the hotels will be much cheaper!) Weather: Moderate while we were there. Think sunny and 70's, not opressively hot. Prices / Currency: Most tourists are actually from the US, so the US Dollar is widely used and accepted there. Formally, Bermuda uses the Bermuda dollar which trades 1:1 with the US dollar. Prices are expensive. Don't expect to find any special deals on the island, as everything that is used on the island effectively needs to be imported. Similarly, prices are also expensive. Note, however, that many hotels include meal plans for your stay, which does mitigate it some (as long as you stay at a hotel with good food). Bermuda has one of the highest per capita incomes in the world, making very unlike anything in the Caribbean. Additionally, tourists aren't permitted to rent cars there, so Mermuda has a very effective bus and ferry public transportation which is about $2 each way. Flight: I believe it was a little over 2 hrs from NYC. Stay: Stayed at the Pompano Beach Club which was outstanding and has terrific food and service. Beach was great and the view was phenomenal. Enjoy! I fell in love with it while we were there! While I definitely recommend the Pompano, check the link below for reliable reviews of the places to stay on Bermuda. I was recently researching Bermuda myself and came across this extremely informative website - http://bermuda-online.org/ One thing I did discover - that professional photographers need a work permit - was a bit of a turn off for me though. To try to quickly answer your specific questions (via the site quoted): Currency: US currency seems to be the best idea as Bermuda dollars are NOT exportable, or otherwise usable outside of Bermuda http://www.bermuda-online.org/money.htm... Visa: Apparently not for Americans, though you may need a passport http://www.bermuda-online.org/abcbda3.ht... Prices: Food and other living expenses seem to be higher than in the US - about 3x higher, according to this site http://www.bermuda-online.org/costoflivi... http://www.bermuda-online.org/ |
