Travel Info Is there anything to do in birmingham?Going for a wk in a camper van? Travel Tips Nightlife - Broad Street and surrounding area. Tons of restaurants and bars. Incl. The Mailbox, same thing, plus some shops. Also, Broad Street area, tons of canals & towpaths that you can walk along. Big, big shopping opportunities in the new Bull Ring. Loads of Indian restaurants out and about, balti etc. Music - the National Indoor Arena and Symphony Hall (all just off Broad Street) have a range of concerts. Go to see the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Hall if you can, great experience and acoustics. Comedy nights at the Glee Club - best to book in advance, in my experience. China Town - good restaurants and the adjacent Gay Village in the Arcadian area/Hurst Street area. Tons of cinemas if you fancy a lazy couple of hours. The Jewellery Quarter in B'ham has tons of jewellery makers and really good prices. Nearby - * Sutton Park - huge parkland, 15 mins on Cross City Train Line. * Lichfield - cross city train line half an hour - interesting cathedral city - unique 3 spired building and market city. Plus Dr Johnson's birthplace museum, home to 1 of the UK's most famous men, and probably the most quoted. * Warwick Castle - huge tourist destination, massive well preserved castle. Plus quaint town. Sutton, Lichfield and Warwick are surrounded by countryside too, so options for a quieter place to park up. Lichfield is half way to the Peak District, really worth a trip. (unless that's where you live!) Great variety of friendly people Good luck! I'm jealous (not a brummie). Others I take it you weren't impressed by the answers you got when you asked this question yesterday! Maybe you should go somewhere else then! Birmingham's OK - there's great shopping in the centre now, and various museums around. But the best thing is that you've got great transport links to other towns in the Midlands. You could have a day at Warwick castle, a day in Stratford upon Avon, a trip to the Derbyshire Peaks (I noticed you like walking), Ironbridge Gorge.....all these are less than an hour's drive from Birmingham I just hope you find somewhere to park your van. As for the best thing to do...duck. In Birmingham there is a major museum and art gallery with important pieces there. There is the jewelry district - Villa park for Aston Villa games and Birmingham City park also. I was born there and grew up there. |
