Hello all, I'm thinking of moving to the Boston area who can suggest an area that a teacher's salary can |
Travel Info afford and is culturally and ethnically diverse with a decent school district? Travel Tips Oh wow! I too am a teacher and have been thinking about the same type of thing. Decent school districts are sort of getting more and more difficult to find with the whole NCLB and the tight standards that the Mass Dept. of Ed. have enstilled on us. You may want to check out Brookline, Allston, Cambridge, Newton, just to name a few. Your best bet is to check on the newspaper here in Boston to find a teaching job and then do an apartment search in that vicinity. I put the website below to sort of give you an idea of what we have to offer in Massachusetts for teaching positions. Good luck! Source(s): http://bostonworks.boston.com/industries... Other Travel Tips anywhere in the suburbs. Or, anywhere in Massachusetts. The pay is good, but your bills will be high and rent is outrageous. Hmm... I would say Somerville is a good area, culturally/ethnically diverse, close to Boston, and more reasonble cost of living - I'm not sure about the school district (I don't have kids so it's not something I look into really) but their reputation is that it's not the best, although it's not terrible either and it's improving. Also look into Quincy or Braintree to the south. It really depends on your age. I would go with Newton- it's far enough out that you can avoid the outrageous in-city rents, but it's a quick trip down the Mass Pike to get to the city. It may not be as "culturally diverse" as you may like, but since there are so many villages within the actual city of Newton, you may find something. If you want something a little closer, Somerville is a good idea, as is Allston/Brighton. My only suggestion with Allston/Brighton (and maybe Somerville, although I didn't live there), is that since both B.C. and B.U. are nearby, it tends to be very college age. Not really a big deal, but some nights can get loud when there are parties going on. Good luck in your move! |
