How easy is it to get a cab in Boston?

Travel Info
I will be trying to get a cab at 5am from Brigham and Women's hospital over a weekend, and would rather drive a rental car than try and hunt down a cab at that hour. But my company is pressuring me to use taxis to save money. I'm worried about my safety. any suggestions?

Travel Tips
I agree that you won't have a hard time getting a cab, and I would definately call and have one waiting. My personal concern is the condition of the cabbie at that time of day (night). I don't care what anyone says, this IS something to consider and be mindful of.

My best thought is that I am guessing you will be working with people who are familiar with that hospital and cabs. I would strongly suggest asking around and seeing if anyone has SPECIFIC recommendations.

When I used to live in downtown Boston I always took cards from the good drivers. While you can't always get someone specifically, often you can especially at off/quiet times like that. I'd both see what company has the current good feedback and if anyone has any suggestions for good drivers. And if you don't know anyone I am betting there will be plenty there who do this daily all the time. I would definately do that before just taking "luck of the drawer" as Boston has some funky cabs as well as drivers (as do all major cities).

Also, have you checked to see if your hotel has a shuttle service? And even if it doesn't run then, they might have some ideas as well. But if you do this you likely will be as safe as walking to a rental car that hour etc. Just be careful, keep your cell handy and I'm sure you'll be fine with a little preparation!

well if your company won't come pick you up or keep you safe with someone you know that drives a taxi than i would rent a car anyway
There shouldn't be a problem getting a cab right at Brigham and Women's Hospital...there is usually a few waiting for a fare. Another option is the Best Western Hotel (at the Galleria), ask them at reception to order cab if there aren't any there.
At 5am at B&W there will be absolutely no problem in getting a cab. If there are none in quew the front desk will call for one.
If you are at the hospital they can probably just call a cab for you, and they always have cabs waiting outside. It's generally easy. The only really difficult times are late at night, when bars and clubs are getting out. Mornings are pretty easy. You can also call ahead to companys yourself if the hosptial wouldn't do it for you. The number for Boston Cab is 617-536-5010. They will pick you up usually within 5-15 mintues from when you cal.
The would not be a problem getting a cab. Please keep in mind that cab does not go into certain neighborhood at certain time
