Travel Tips
I'd add one other tip, although I'm not sure if it would work for you or not. It depends on when you are moving and if you are coming with a lot of possessions. One of the best bargains in Boston is to take a summer sublet. You will play about half of what the same apartment would cost full time. You can find many listed on Craig's list or in the local newspapers.

If you are able to do this, it would be a great way to come up, have a great summer in Boston, and learn the different areas. I

've noticed here that when folks answer, even though they definately try to be helpful, people all have different opinions of what is nice. So to know what YOU really like, you really need to get familiar with the different neighborhoods and towns. What I think is great you might not, and what someone else thinks is ideal you might hate etc.

Most sublets are furnished so maybe you could move in stages even if it is a bit of a pain. Plus if you are here, then you can list with local realtors and there are tons of other options open to you.

Moving, under the best of circumstances, is beyond stressful, so I can understand how you must feel! And remember cost of living is high but generally salary's are higher to compensate for it. And there are good buys out there. You just need to find what works for you, and decide what type of area you want to make home. Not sure if this would work or not for you, but wanted to at least suggest it! Good luck with finding a great spot!

are you looking to live directly in Boston? You will find much better rent prices just outside of town (and still close to the "T") Check out Malden if you prefer north of Boston, Quincy for south of Boston. Also, look at renting in a multi-family home. They tend to be less expensive than the large complexes in the area. Good luck to you!
Apartments tend to be cheaper if you use the newspapers..Boston Metro, Sunday Boston Globe and Boston Herald. If you know somebody in Boston, ask him/her to mail the Sunday Globe (best bet). Landlords save money by eliminating rental agents when they advertise in newspapers so it's much cheaper for you. And you don't have to pay a rental agent.
Look in local newspapers, or Craigs List. Somethings to keep in mind- don't be opposed to having a roommate as it will really cut down on costs. Also, if you live slightly outside the city and travel in, you can save lots of money and it doesn't take that much time of effort to do .
