Advice for Boston please?

Travel Info
I will be visiting Boston in July. My group is travelling from NYC early on a Monday morning and will have the balance of the day in Boston. We already have Red Sox tickets. We are travelling back to NYC on Tuesday morning.

Please give suggestions for a) what to see in the afternoon, b) where to go after the game (we are all in our mid-30s and like the pub scene), and c) a good value clean hotel near whereever we end the night.

Thanks!

The Boston Hotel Buckminster is right in the Fenway area. It's an old hotel, but clean. Check it out online. If you appreciate Victorian architecture, you'll like this place

Given that it's a Monday, when the nightlife would be typically dead, you might want to stay by Fenway. There are a ton of clubs on Landsdowne St, directly outside Fenway, not to mention several around the corner. Since you mention Pubs, you might like Copperfields, on Brookline Ave, which is more of a Pub atmosphere with live bands often, but I doubt on Mondays, but you never know lol. But there are several pretty ok places, such a Jillians or the old classic The Cask (and Flagon).

The other option would be to head over to Fanieul Hall, which is always great fun on a summer nite. There tons of food and various bars. The Black Rose is a great Irish Pub that's hard to have a bad time at. Plus you can check out the waterfront as this is all by the Harbor.

Word of advice, unless you are very brave (and well armed) I would be careful of wearing any NY sports team logo's esp the Yankee's. People get violent lolol.

I don't think there is a good value hotel in town if you go there. If you stay near Fenway I always seem to recommend the Holiday Inn on Beacon Street, which is less than 2 miles away, not luxurious, but nice and well kept and far more reasonable than both. And it's either what I find a reasonable walk, but if you don't there is the T that runs right into Kenmore Sq for Fenway Park and a short cab ride home (as the T probably won't be running if you stay out late).

As for what to do in the afternoon, wish you gave an idea of what type of stuff you like. If you don't go to Fanuel Hall after the game, it might be fun to go there for lunch and to either poke around or a pre-game beverage :)

ETA and FYI...sorry a poster feels some weird need to comment/discredit all my posts, but I gave you the best advice I know, based on where I would go and where I would stay. Given how almost all the answers after mine all suggested part or all of my suggestions, I think they can't be that bad lolol. So hoped they helped, hope you'll look into ALL places listed and find the one that sounds best for you and your friends. And I lived in Boston for MANY years and yes all my info is current. Some folks just don't respect that others disagree. That's why I say look at each suggestion and make up your own mind. Oh and I suggested the bars I did based on your Pub comment, whereas many of the other ones mentioned, while lots of fun, are a different feel (though I thought of Boston Beer works after so am glad someone mentioned it to you!). Just wander around they are all within a couple blocks. You can easily see what looks like fun to you and your friends. That part is simple! HAVE FUN!
Well after the game I think the Cask & Flagon or Boston Beer Works are great for after the game. I also agree that Copperfields is great, though not my favorite spot. Also don't forget about Game On! For the afternoon, hop on a duck tour, walk the freedom trail or just chill out in Faniuel Hall. Also the shops on Newbury Street can be a fun way to spend time (and money unfortunately). There really aren't any good value hotels in Boston, there is a real shortage of hotel rooms in the city so per the laws of supply and demand hotel rooms are expensive. I have had pretty good luck finding deals at the Seaport Hotel and Copley Sheraton, but still wouldn't call that cheap, but I guess they would be value. Enjoy Boston its a fabulous city!
Born & raised in the Boston Area, lived in the city for about 5 years, still work in the city.
I hope you like the baseball game with the Boston Red Sox. For the hotel, join the Priority Club and stay at the Holiday Inn. You can save tremendously, and get extras for your group. You save about 20% per evening, and ask for group rates. You can join at any Holiday Inn, it isn't a points club, it is a discount club membership.

Your best bet would be to focus your hotel and after game activities directly around Fenway Park. Because it's a weekday, that will be the only place really with a lot of people. During the day you could try to take in some sites- go to the top of the Prudential Building, walk around Fanueil Hall (great places to eat, fun little pubs, some shops, etc), things like that. . . After the game, I would suggest going to Game On which is tons of fun all the time. It's right at Fenway Park basically. There are some other good places around the area too- tons of bars really. The Cask, Boston Beer Works, Who's on First, etc. You'll see all of them just walking around outside the park!. . . You could stay close to Fenway to make it easy to get to your hotel afterwards. The Holiday Inn on Beacon Street is good, clean and economical. If you're looking to spend (a lot) more money and get a (much) nicer hotel, then you could stay at The Hotel Commonwealth. It's a new, very upscale hotel in Kenmore Square. Pricey, but nice. Both of these options are nice because you can walk, take a cheap cab, or the train from Fenway (at Kenmore Square stop) to anywhere you need to go even back and forth to the game. Train will be easiest to get around to the sites.
