What's there to do in Gloucester/Newburyport, Massachusetts? |
Travel Info I'm 23 years old and planning to get a bunch of my friends to go in June. Any suggestions as to beaches/restaurants/sightseein... touring? thanks! Travel Tips Others I agree with the answer above.. If you do go to Newburyport you have to eat at Michaels Harborside. hey there, Newburyport is awesome..it has a great historical downtown, with many great little shops...and a wide range of high class dining to average hangouts..however Newburyport is a very wealthy and beautiful city....a popular hangout is Michael's harbor side...which is casual but fun....also you should visit Plum Island well there..it is a part of Newburyport..it is a awesome little island..with more shops and great clean beach.(p.s...in the old firehouse theater..there is a awesome Italian pizza place there...i forget the exact name but ask and people will tell you.) its worth it. The 2 main beaches in Gloucester are Good Harbor and Wingasheek. Both are nice and both have FREEZING cold water lol. Be warned, they both have limited, expensive parking so you need to get there early. Gloucester doesn't have that much to do, so I agree that Newburyport is MUCH nicer to poke around in. Tons of red brick, and many excellent restaurants and cute stores, not sure if you care about that lol. Many folks like the Bear skin neck area in Gloucester, but it's just an old artist colony and lots of gallery's so not sure I'd suggest that. If you have time you might want to go poke around Rockport for a few hours. It's a charming town, adorable shops and just a lovely feel, right on the waterfront. Stop for strudel at the Strudel place, eat it on their hidden deck outback....LOVELY view with a yummy snack. And the view at the rocks at the very end is amazing (as is the restaurant on the left heading toward the water..but pricey!) If you want to explore another beach a little bit farther I couldn't suggest Singing Beach in Manchester by the Sea more. The only problem is parking is very limited. But the good news is it's not a bad walk to the beach, 1/4 mile, from the center of the small town. Sadly they closed a place that was an awesome bar and restaurant. I haven't checked out the place that replaced it so dunno, but that was alway a great day....first Singing Beach (which is the best beach off the Cape IMHO), then there after. |
