Should I-93 be extended all the way to the Cape? |
Travel Info should it replace state route 3 on pilgrim's highway Travel Tips Going to the Cape and back this weekend, on a busy weekend during what would normally be considered "peak times" (Saturday afternoon, and returning Monday AM) there was NO traffic, just a clear shot coming and going. I think the rotary construction at the Sagamore Bridge really turned things around, so although it would be nice to see Route 3 wider in some areas, things are currently muched improved, so I wouldn't see changes really a requirement at this point. Others :::::::::::SHUDDER::::::::::::... I swear I literally did when I read this. I will explain why with 3 little words---The Big Dig. Excuse me while I go shudder a bit more. I'd say I'm kidding but I'm not much lol. I think MA has already shown it's competency level in large road contruction projects. I'd love to see us not get another few billion in debt, so my vote is NO. They managed to do the "flyover" with no deaths so far, so I think we need to see if that helps. If anything, I'd look to see if there is a way to widen parts of Rt. 3, especially closer to Rt. 93 and 128, where there is a more dense combo of commuter traffic combined with Cape traffic. But I really don't think it's a big enough crisis for them to devote a new extension to. The major problems are on Friday's and Sundays in the summer. Other times it's not that hard to get on/off the Cape traffic wise. So I think that would be a huge investment for a situation that while hellish during those times, if pretty functional the majority of the time. I think those billions are better off spent on the bridges that are near collapse all over the state, every day. Those are accidents waiting to happen and I think more serious, as the ride to the Cape is a annoyance (definately a huge one sometimes) but is safe. The bridges no longer are. And again....think Big Dig...no new major road projects for awhile please. Gotta go shudder some more at the thought lolol I think it should Most of MA 3 is not interstate standard and MA would have to spend a sum of money to upgrade MA 3 (especially the bridges) to interstate standards. Now, given that MA wrapped up projects at the Sagamore Rotary, perhaps one can make the argument for extending I-93 down to the Rotary. However, that needs Federal approval which MA is not likely to receive anytime soon.... No. Instead they should consider adding more public transportation (buses, trains, boats, etc.) instead of encouraging more people to drive to the Cape. I don't think so, it would cost so much money and there really isn't much point. Once you get past Weymouth the traffic isn't that bad so it seems like the money could be better spent fixing other areas. No, thats sort of silly. Keep Route 3. They just built that multimillion dollar flyover project. |
