What does it take to get from NYC to Boston? |
Travel Info What does it take to get from NYC to Boston? Travel Tips Patience! lol...not always but sometimes. It's a trip I've made by all methods many times over the years. I am assuming you don't have car from the post, but if you do it's approx 4 hours from the city to Boston if traffic is average. I find the Hutch/Merritt usually is about half an hour faster than 95 all the way, and a prettier trip, but it's a 2 lane road and if there's an accident all bets are off. But on to the other methods that I think you are asking about. That leaves us with Amtrack or bus. The train is a little more money (or a lot more if you go with the high speed Acela), but is by far the most pleasant. You don't risk traffic jams, it's a lovely view and tends to be the most convenient with various stop locations. It would be my choice without a car. If money is an issue, I know Greyhound had been offering cheap summer specials but not sure if it's still as cheap with the current gas rates. Wow yup they still do..it's $12 one way or $20 rt. Check it out at http://www.greyhound.com/scripts/en/tick... I would NEVER set foot on that death trap Fung Wah under ANY circumstance. They have had more crashes and problems than any other company up here, and almost were shut down. For the amount of accidents and problems they have had, along with drivers with violations and no English, no price is worth the risk IMHO. OH, almost forgot there is, of course, an airplane shuttle, but I find that by the time you come and go from both airports the travel time is about the same and you are paying many times more. So I would skip that, unless you have miles you want to use. But I wouldn't waste them on this trip truthfully. Just try to time it so you aren't hitting rush hour on either end, esp if you don't go by train. And remember that you will hit Hartford about 2 hours out of NY. All 3 rush hours can add a lot of time to the trip. But when it's moving it's a breeze!By car it's a 4 hour drive. Or you can take Greyhound or the Fung Wah bus (Greyhound is safer). That costs about $20-$40 round trip, depending which bus you take. Plane ride is about $180 for the shuttle. Think about what time you will be leaving. Make sure you are not traveling during the commute time. It is awful in Boston even for us who live here. About 3 hours drive depending on point to point. Easy drive, interstate all the way. The warning about traffic is a good one. I've done from 2-6 a.m. You want to be across the GW Bridge by 6.a.m or after 10 a.m. |
