How safe is it to ride the T subway in Boston?

Travel Info
Not in terms of a terrorism but in terms of like normal crime?

Travel Tips
EXTREMELY SAFE!! It is the ABSOLUTE BEST way to get around; there are several different colored lines and even the ones that go into the outer regions of Boston that are considered not to be safe (Roxbury, for example) are extremely safe due to strategically placed, central stations.

Please take the T; it is extremely cheap, fast, fun and efficient. The subway cars have been improved in recent years and they look great (not that anything was wrong with them before)

There are stops EVERYWHERE! You can get to wherever you want with the T; I recommend it over the Silver Line (which is the Bus system)

Look at the MBTA's website for complete details. Don't worry, it is really safe! Bostonians are nice, caring people! You will make friends on the subway! It's great!

The orange line (that goes to Roxbury) is actually really safe; the people are quite, caring, working class people who need to get home like the rest of us. Don't worry about the orange line at all! Source(s): I'm a Bostonian! And proud to be one!
Other Travel Tips
I agree the T is an extremely safe mode of transportation, especially the green line and the red line. Personally I don't like the orange line. The Orange Line runs through some of the more crime ridden neighborhoods. I always ride the T when I'm in Boston, because driving is a headache, unless you really know the city you can have issues driving around. I know the city really well and I still have my moments when a new big dig change has been made. About 2 months ago I was driving to my best friend's apartment, and I visit there often, well a new exit for 93 was opened off Storrow Drive, screwed me all up and I ended up on 93 North when I was just trying to get over to the Cambridgeside Galleria! Disaster! Take the T its safe and cheap. Just be aware it stops offering service at midnight.
The T is definitely safe.

I ride the dreaded Orange Line the others above have referred to, and have never felt unsafe. Whether it's 6 in the morning, the middle of the day when it's so crowded you can barely breathe, or after midnight, I've always felt completely comfortable on it.

You're only taking it a few stops. You won't have any trouble at all, so don't worry about it.
Very safe.
You can take the Green Line from North Station to Park St and be virtually in the same place the Orange Line will drop you (1 short block away) The Orange and Green Lines to Downtown are on the same platform at North Station, and the Green Line trains run more frequently.
I've been riding the T for years - Red Line, Green Line, and Orange Line. I've never had a problem on any of them. You will be safe going the short distance and location you are heading in..probably safer than walking that same distance.
